Growing sunflowers from seed

Sunflowers are a hit with children because they provide a lot of entertainment watching them grow tall, observing how the flower follows the track of the sun each day and they’re easy to grow! The flowers can be picked or grown to maturity where the seeds can be harvested for seed saving or try sprouting the seeds to add to your favourite meals for added nutrition.

  1. Sow sunflower seeds 1” apart (For our 3’ by 3’ area sow 20 seeds)
  2. Water thoroughly, keep soil moist not soggyWater thoroughly, keep soil moist not soggy
  3. Once the seedlings are 3-4” tall transplant into the garden or large planters 12” apart
  4. Don’t forget to water…
  5. Watch them grow!
